Safe2Say Update

Dear Windber Area School District Community,

I want to take a moment to inform you about a recent Safe2Say report regarding a potential threat involving both the Greater Johnstown School District and Windber Area School District. After a thorough investigation by our administration and local law enforcement, it was determined that the threat was transient in nature—meaning there was no actual danger to our students, staff, or schools.

The report stemmed from an immature and flippant comment allegedly made by a Windber student, a remark that was entirely inappropriate and has no place in our district or community. While there was no real threat or proof regarding the allegations, we take any statement of this nature seriously.

I want to commend our administration, the Greater Johnstown School District’s administration, and our local law enforcement for their swift response, collaboration, and commitment to keeping our schools safe. Their dedication to student safety is evident in the way this situation was handled.

Additionally, I want to express our gratitude to the individual who made the anonymous report. Keeping our students and schools safe is a responsibility we all share, and this situation is a reminder that when we see something concerning, it is always best to say something. The Safe2Say program exists for this very reason, and we encourage everyone to continue using it to report any safety concerns.

At Windber Area School District, we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools and community secure.

Sincerely,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

Superintendent of Schools
