As we look ahead to enhancing our varsity basketball programs at Windber Area School District, we are excited to announce the re-launch of the WBA (Boys) and WGBA (Girls) initiatives. Our goal is to reignite the spirit of excellence that characterized these programs when they were under the leadership of former Windber standout coach, Dr. Emery D'Arcangelo, fostering healthy competition and fostering the growth of our student-athletes.
To achieve this, we are reaching out to you, our valued parents, guardians, and community members, for your support in revitalizing our basketball programs. We believe that a collective effort will not only strengthen our teams but also enrich the experiences of our student-athletes.
Specifically, we are seeking volunteers to coach teams within our structured program. Our vision involves a systematic approach where varsity and junior high coaches will collaborate to train volunteer coaches. These coaches will be equipped with the knowledge to implement the same plays and strategies used by our varsity teams. By aligning our coaching methodologies, we aim to better prepare our student-athletes for success in junior and senior high basketball competitions. Additionally, we are planning to develop both a summer program and a late fall program. These initiatives are designed to provide our student-athletes with the necessary skills and conditioning to excel in leagues such as the Bishop McCort League, Ebensburg League, and East Hills Rec Leagues, which commence in late fall.
At this initial stage, we kindly request interested parents, guardians, and community members to complete an interest form indicating their willingness to coach a team (click on the picture/graphic at the very bottom to sign up). Your involvement is crucial in laying the foundation for a robust, strategic, and aligned basketball program for both boys and girls.
All volunteers will need to submit their clearances and be board-approved before any coaching occurs. If you have any questions on how to obtain your volunteer clearances, please click here to visit the portion of our website that will explain the process and allow you to apply for your volunteer clearances. Once you have all the required clearances, be sure to submit a copy to Mrs. Pamela Gyruik so that you can be added to the Board agenda for approval.
Once we have gathered responses regarding interest in coaching, we will arrange a coaches' meeting in April or May to discuss further details and coordinate our efforts. Together, we can create an environment where our student-athletes thrive both on and off the court. Your support and commitment are essential in making this endeavor a success. With your help, we can establish a basketball program that not only develops athletic skills but also instills values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship in our student-athletes.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our basketball programs. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require further information.
