• Autistic Support (AS)
    WASD operates its own  itinerant AS teacher in Windber to work with autistic children and to serve as a resource person.

 

  • Deaf and Hearing Support (HS). WASD contracts with IU8 to provide interant teachers to students in the district. It serves Windber students as well as students from neighboring school districts.

 

  • Emotional Support (ES)
    WASD provides fulltime ES classes by contracting with IU08. WASD employs its own Interant teacher that is assigned to ES students in the district. In the Elementary and Middle school there is an ES class operated by IU8 with students from Windber and neighboring school districts. Students in the secondary who have greater ES needs are placed in neighboring school districts or special education centers where classes are available.

 

  • Gifted Support (GS)
    WASD operates its own GS programs in the elementary and secondary schools for students with high intellectual and creative ability.

 

  • Learning Support (LS)
    WASD operates its own LS programs with district-employed LS teachers in the elementary and secondary. This program is designed to provide varying levels of support for students experiencing academic difficulty.

 

  • Life Skills Support (LSS)
    WASD contracts with IU08 and other agencies as needed to provide LSS. Students are generally placed in neighboring school districts or special education centers.In the Middle school there is a class operated by the IU8 with Life Skills support.

 

  • Speech and Language Support (SLS)
    The WASD operates its own SLS program. There is currently one SLS teacher who works in the elementary and secondary.

 

  • School Health Services
    WASD employs two school nurses to provide health services.

 

  • Guidance Counseling
    WASD employs three guidance counselors to assist students with their needs.

 

  • Transportation
    Windber provides regular school bus transportation to all eligible students. Specialized transportation is arranged when determined to be appropriate through educational programming.

 

  • School Psychologist
    WASD employs one School Psychologist to provide psychological services.  Psychological evaluations are required under state and federal regulations to assist in eligibility determination.

 

  • School Social Workers
    WASD contracts with IU8 to provide school social work services
