The level and type of support that your child may need can depend on many factors. Levels and types of support range from the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) to more restrictive setting. An example of the least restrictive environment could be a placement in the regular classroom and an example of a more restrictive environment could represent placement in an out-of-state school. The goal of special education is to place the student in the least restrictive environment that is appropriate based on the student's needs. Below is a listing of the levels of support.

  • Itinerant Supports and Services  Special education supports and services provided by special education personnel ( either in the learning support or regular education classroom) for 20 % or less of the school day.
  • Supplemental Supports and Services  Special education supports and services provided by special education personnel ( either in the learning support or regular education classroom) for more than 20 %  of the school day but less than 80% of the school day.
  • Full-time Supports and Services   Special education supports and services provided by special education personnel ( either in the learning support or regular education classroom) for 80% or more of the school day.
