Windber Area School District is pleased to welcome nine new teachers this year.  The faculty members bring a broad range of experience to their classrooms, including memories of their days as Windber students.  New teachers include:

Windber Area Elementary School

Kevin Edmondson, Grade 5 – Mr. Edmondson earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from  Penn State and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University. He brings several years of educational experience to the classroom, including 10 years spent teaching kindergarten, Grade 4 and gifted support.
 
Jill Marguccio, Grade 4, Math and Science – Ms. Marguccio earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from IUP in 2014. She served as an AmeriCorp member at WAES before joining the faculty this year.
                                                        
Jaclyn Stevanus, ’07, Grade 1 – Ms. Stevanus holds a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UPJ and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She has worked in Windber schools since 2011.
 
Jennifer York, ‘92, K4 – Mrs. York earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She returned to the area with her family in 2005. Prior to joining the faculty, she had served as a substitute teacher at WAES for several years.
Windber Area Middle School

Emily Redfoot , Grade 6, English – Ms. Redfoot earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education and a minor in Exceptionalities from Slippery Rock University in 2015. She is very interested in co-teaching, collaborative learning and media literacy.

Windber Area High School

Robert James, Physics – Mr. James is a native of Ohio who has called Somerset County home since 2001. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and teacher certification from Drexel University.

Stephanie Leiderman, Grade 11, English – Ms. Leiderman is a 2010 graduate of Millersville University. She previously worked at Everett Area High School as a college advisor and at HOPE for Hyndman Charter School in Bedford County as an English teacher.
 
Steve Slatcoff, ’03, Social Studies and Athletic Director – Mr. Slatcoff graduated from Shippensburg University with a Secondary Education degree, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education from California University of PA and K-12 Principal Certification. He brings more than a decade of experience to the classroom and is “thrilled to become a Rambler again.”

Josh Varga, Grade 9, EnglishMr. Varga earned Bachelor’s degrees in English and History from the University of Pittsburgh, a graduate degree from Drexel University, and has taught English and Social Studies for three years.  He is a long-time Ramblers fan -  his wife, Ellen, graduated from Windber Area High School in 2006.
